MACHINE GUN HISTORY

GATLING MACHINE GUN

  • Named after Richard Jordan Gatling, a physician.
  • 1864-1865
  • First weapon to get job done faster.
  • U.S Army bought Gatling gun in 1866
  • U.S Army improved Gatling Gun.

HOW IT WORKS

USED IN WWI

  • Gatling gun didn't have that of a "huge" impact
  • Planted seeds for new changes and improvements
  • Brought new techniques.

MAXIM MACHINE GUN

  • Invented in 1884 by Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim.
  • Took over after Gatling Machine gun.
  • Used in colonial battles as it developed.
  • U.S adopted in 1904.
  • First caliber heavy machine gun standard for the U.S

HOW IT WAS USED

  • Water cooled gun
  • 250-round belts.
  • Gas produced by explosion ⬇️
  • Generated a recoil which kept the gun going.

  • Introduced to british army in 1912
  • Was an improvement for battles
