WHEN IS IT CELEBRATED?

Where is it celebrated?

Mardi Gras is celebrated in many different places but is mostly known in Louisiana, especially around New Orleans. But Mardi Gras is also celebrated in other regions of the U.S.

HISTORY

The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the 17th and 18th century.
Mardi Gras came to America when a French-Canadian explorer named 'Jean Baptiste Le Monye Sieur de Bienville' had arrived at a plot of land 60 miles south of New Orleans and named it "Pointe du Mardi Gras".
Jean Bienville and his men had realized it was the eve of the French holiday "Boeuf Gras" which is translated to fatted calf. …

TRADITIONS

1.)Floats - usually show power, wealth, and your status to other people. Other times they will represent an event that should be celebrated

2.)Colors - the colors purple, green, and gold are the most popular to wear, they all mean something different for the holiday

3.)Beads - stand for unity and shows that everyone is equal during this holiday

4.)Masks - add excitement to the celebration, is an opportunity for people to abandon social contracts by wearing masks on Fat Tuesday
