FIVE AGENTS OF SOCIALIZATION
Family
Family is considered the most important agent of socialization. The family teaches us how to function and care for ourselves. They also teach us close relationships and group life. They provide us with our first system of values, norms and beliefs
Friends
Our friends give us a chance to develop many social skills we need as adults. We rely on them for fun, for emotional comfort , for support, and for companionship
Education
The main purpose of school is to transfer subject knowledge and teach life skills but we also learn social skills through our interactions with teachers and students
Mass Media
Television shows, movies, popular music, magazines, web sites, and other aspects of the mass media influence our political views; our tastes in popular culture; our views of women, people of color, and gays; and many other beliefs and practices.
Religion
Religion plays a significant role in socialization. It influences morality becoming a key component in people's ideas of right and wrong.
