  • His family was of the Quaker group
  • No college education so he taught himself math and science
  • Math and philosophy teacher at New College in Manchester
  • Then, he became the principle at age 19

IDEAS

  • Discovered that elements are made up of atoms
  • Studied colorblindness
  • All gasses can be liquified
