PROTAGONIST

  • Mark Chelmsey is the protagonist. He is kind and honest.
  • Mark sticks up for his opinion and his friends. He doesn't lie or fib.

THE CONFLICT

  • A teacher that picks on Mark is the conflict.
  • The teacher,Mr.Maxwell, notices that Mark is loyal to his friend.
  • Others that are involved in the conflict is Jason. Jason is Marks friend.

SETTING

  • The setting of the novel is in the woods.
  • An outside observer tells the story.
  • The climax occurs when Mr.Maxwell realizes that Mark ran into the woods on a dangerous trail by himself.

THEME

  • The mood is exciting. The author creates suspense that keeps you at the edge of your seat.
  • The theme is when somebody doubts you prove them wrong. Even if someone doesn't like you, you should keep being nice back.
  • Mark gave Mr.Maxwell an envolope and said it was the permission slips for a week in the woods. Mr.Maxwell didn't crack a smile. He said great. However, that is not what Mr.Maxwell's eyes said. This states how Mr.Maxwell was not kind to Mark, but Mark still was kind back

RATING OF NOVEL

  • My rating would be strong.
  • The author uses vivid words. Andrew Clements creates a picture in my mind. He also creates suspense which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the novel.
