I’d like to talk about a song called “Fix you”, from the British rock band Coldplay.

It is part of their third album “X&Y”, released in 2005, so it may sound a little bit old to you.

It is quite an interesting song.

The vocalist sings a high pitched melody using a common technique in both classical and modern music, called “falsetto”.

Piano and strings appear to support the harmony, and an acoustic guitar reinforces the rhythm.

The electric guitar starts a simple but energetic riff, accompanied by a strong rhythm on the drums.

Now a new verse is sung by harmonically balanced voices.

Suddenly, all that energy vanishes and the song ends with just piano and voice repeating the same chorus we heard at the beginning, but transposed an octave lower, so the vocalist can use a more natural, almost whispering tone.
