THE SALEM WITCH TRIALS

BEFORE THE TRIALS IN SALEM HAD STARTED MANY THINGS WERE HAPPENIG IN SALEM

• There were very strong beliefs in the devil
• There were fanatic fractions of people in salem
• There were rivalrys between neighboring villages
• And there had been an recent put break of smallpox

How it all started
The Salem witch trials started with one young girl named Betty Paris

Betty had been having seizures and had been claiming that she had seen visions of the demons and Devils coming out of the body's of people
More and more girls followed in this trend of lying about people and saying they were having visions causing to have to go to trial to see if they were witches and wizards

THE COURTS

• In june of 1692 the special court of oyer to hear and decide on the cases of witch craft
• During the time the top chief of justice was William Stoughton

EXECUTIONS

• The first person to be charged and exicuted ny the court was a women named Bridget Bishop
• Bridget was only 1 out of the thirteen women and five men that weere sent to the gallows
• And hundreds more were accused of being witches
• While other died in prison waiting there trials

HOW IT ALL END

• Eventually the original court disbanded
• And a new court arose
• This new court released those awaiting trial
• And pardoned those that were awaiting execution
• As the years passed apollogies were given to those family that had been executed
