GULF OF MEXICO

  • Fact 1: The gulf measures approximately 1,600 kilometers from east to west, 900 kilometers from North to South.
  • Fact 2: It is bordered by 6 U.S states:Florida,Alabama,Mississippi,Louisiana and Texas.
  • Fact 3: It is located at the southeastern corner of the U.S.
  • Description: It is one of the world’s largest bodies of water.

THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.

  • Description: It is one of the worlds largest rivers.
  • Fact 1: It flows through the Gulf of Mexico,Minneapolis, and obviously, Mississippi.
  • Fact 2: The Mississippi River is one of the world's major river systems in size, habitat diversity and biological productivity. It is the second longest river in North America, flowing 2,350 miles from its source at Lake Itasca through the center of the continental United States to the Gulf of Mexico.

THE GREAT LAKES

  • Description: The 5 Great Lakes include Lake Erie, Michigan, Superior, Huron and Ontario. Fact 1: The Great Lakes are part of the St. Lawrence Seaway shipping route, allowing boats to travel from the Great lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Fact 2: The Great Lakes border 7 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Ontario.

GREAT PLAINS.

  • Facts about the Great Plains: The Great Plains stretch from Canada down to Mexico, cutting through the central part of the United States, bounded by the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Missouri River to the east.
  • Description: The Great Plains extend from the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, through w central USA to Texas. The plateau slopes down and e from the Rocky Mountains. It is a sparsely populated region with a semi-arid climate, prone to high winds.

THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS.

  • Description: The Rocky Mountains, commonly known as the Rockies, are a major mountain range in western North America. Fact 1: The Rocky Mountains stretch more than 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from the northernmost part of British Columbia, in western Canada, to New Mexico, in the Southwestern United States. Fact 2: Within the North American Cordillera, the Rockies are somewhat distinct from the Pacific Coast Ranges and the Cascade Range and Sierra Nevada, which all lie further to the west.

THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS.

  • Description: The Appalachians are the oldest chain of mountains in the North American continent. Fact 1: This mountain range derives its name from the Apalachees - an Indian tribe inhabiting this region. Fact 2: Mount Mitchell, with a height of 6,684 ft is the tallest mountain in the Appalachian range.
