QUAKERS
- Quakers started at the end of Europe's Protestant Reformation (17th century)
- Their missionary efforts brought them to North America
- In America they became involved in Pennsylvania politics and then changed their views on government participation in the mid 1750's
- They were the first organization to ban slavery within the group
- Formally known as the Religious Society of Friends
- Strict policy of no violence

QUAKERS IN GEORGIA
- In 1768 Joseph Maddock (English Quaker) who was from NC founded Wrightsborough which was a Quaker community in GA
- The worst thing that happened to the Quakers was the Cotton Gin
- Their main export crop had been tobacco but now cotton was being produced faster than their tobacco
- The invention of the cotton gin brought more slaves which they were against
- They could no longer compete in Georgia's economy
