WHAT IS LAND POLLUTION?

  • It is the deposition of solid or liquid waste.
  • It can be found underground and in soils.
  • The waste that causes land pollution are classifed as solid waste.

HOW IS LAND POLLUTION MEASURED?

  • 10 tons of paper.
  • 5 tons of oils
  • 1 ton of liquid wastes

EXAMPLES OF MEASUREMENTS

  • The average person produces 4.3 pounds of waste per day.
  • 100 million tons of paper products in 2008
  • In 2008 there was 22 million tons of plastic products dumped.

EFFECTS OF LAND POLLUTION

  • Can cause respiratory problems like asthma attacks.
  • It can cause skin diseases and neuromuscular blockage and rashes.
  • Can cause lung cancer and kidney damage.
  • Can also cause developmental damage to children.

OTHER PROBLEMS

  • The toxic materials can pollute the soil.
  • It can come in contact with your skin.
  • It was be washed into water sources and rivers.
  • Vegetables and other plants can be grown it polluted soil.

HOW TO PREVENT LAND POLLUTION

  • Reduce, reuse, recycle
  • Buy biodegradable products
  • Don't dump motor oil on the ground
  • Buy products that have little packaging
  • Follow anti-litter campaigns
