ANIMALS

  • black bears are well adapted for the temperate forest. The heavy coat they have helps them deal with the cold winters. Long claws help them climb trees. An essential adaptation because black bears often live in hollow trees. They are omnivores.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE

  • Many trees in the temperate forest are cut down and used for wood and supplies. Pathogens may also cause the loss of some or all native species. Human activities near the forests may lead to fire which could cause pathogen levels to increase.
