SAM HOUSTON

  • Dealt with threats from Mexico/American Indians by turning to militia companies and Texas Rangers he also wrote to chief Bowles.
  • Handled financial issues by collecting taxes and selling a lot of Texas' public land
  • Provided protection for Texans by creating a frontier defense force out of militia's and Rangers.
  • Views on annexation: Sam Houston wanted Texas to be annexed to the U.S.

MIRABEAU LAMAR

  • Dealt with Mexico/American Indians by trying to get rid of Indians and having many battles against them.
  • Handled financial issues by passing a homestead law and making red backs in 1838.
  • Provided protection for Texans by issuing laws to protect Texas' economy and the people's money
  • Views on annexation: wanted to add on to Texas instead of being part of another country.

ANSON JONES

  • Dealt with Mexico/ American Indians by providing protection from militias and wanted to start a war with Mexico, but was stopped by Houston.
  • Handled financial issues by trying to limit government spending but a failure of cotton dried up Texas' treasury.
  • Provided protection for Texans by limiting spending and coming at peace with the Native Americans.
  • Views on annexation: wanted to be annexed to the U.S. And worked with Houston on many plans for it.
