WHY THEY WENT ON THIS EXCURSION

• After president Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana territory he told Lewis and Clark to explore the new land

FIRST DAY OF TRAVEL

• Lewis and Clark went to St. Louis,Mo,
• They took four dozen ships that included men and gifts for the Native Americans

THEIR FORST INTERACTIONS

• They first encountered the Mandas Native Americans
• They were settling in for their first winter.

SACAGAWEA

• At the Rocky Mountains they had met Sacagawea
• She became their interpreter and guide.

LAND FEATURES

• They saw the Mo river
• Rocky Mountains
• Black hills
• And flatlands

ANIMALS

• Antelope
• Buffalo
• Weasel
• Squirrels
• And prairie dogs

DANGERS

• Dangerous waters
• Harsh weather
• Hunger
• Illness
• Injury
• And fatigue

DANGERS

• Lewis was shot in the thigh by one of his own men during a hunting trip.

LAST DAY ACCOMPANIMENTS

• They had traveled 8,000 miles.
• They found and mapped several passes through the Rockies.
• And found tons of information of the Louisiana territory.

GOALS NOT MADE ON THE LAST DAY

• They did not find an all water route that went through North America.
