LOCATION

  • Ghana located in west africa between Cote d'lvoire and Togo
  • In western africa which are today's Muaritania, Senegal, snd Mali

IRON AND POWER

  • They used iron to make weapons to conquer other villages or empires.
  • They also made tools too build a stronger empire.

ECONOMY: TAXES AND GOLD

THEY USED TAXES TO GET MORE MONEY

PRODUCTS TRADED

  • Ghana mostly traded iron, gold, and salt.

SALT IS IMPORTANT

  • It preserves food
  • It flavors food
  • Dietary supplement in hot, dry climates

ACCRA, KUMASI, TAMALE, AND TAKORADI

GHANA'S DECLINE

  • After they were recovering from their attack a drought came upon them and forced people to move away for water and food
  • Some rebels rose up and took over ghana
  • Almoravid attacked them an ghana lost all power.

  • Sundiata was the founder and ruler of the Mali empire in West Africa.

RELIGION AND MANSA MUSA'S PILGRIMAGE

  • Mansa Musa (died 1337), king of the Mali empire in West Africa, is known mostly for his fabulous pilgrimage to Mecca and for his promotion of unity and prosperity within Mali.
  • Mansa Musa's pilgrimage helped spread the news about Mali to Africa and got more people to go to Mali. Also his pilgrimage/hajj showed he was a devote Muslim, he wanted to spread Islam.
