PRESENTATION OUTLINE

READY PLAYER ONE

CONTRASTS AND CONTRADICTIONS

  • The book starts out with Wade (protagonist) being poor but by the end he turns out very rich because he found the Easter egg in Oasis
  • It helps us understand character development.
  • In the book Wade starts out poor so the reader might think he is going to stay poor. Later we find out that Wade becomes rich by winning a competition where the winner becomes very wealthy.
  • Wade is timid in the beginning of the story but he becomes more confident as the competition goes on which leads to him win.
  • We can predict the plot because often in stories the shy kid overcomes his shyness and comes out ahead by the end.

AGAIN AND AGAIN

  • In Ready Player One Wade has to find keys to open gates that lead to the end prize. He has to find three keys so this pattern repeats.
  • The literary elements the keys helps us understand are plot and symbolism.
  • The author brought this up a lot because it is necessary to the story line. The keys represent the players being able to move to the next level and without them the story would stop.

MEMORY MOMENT

  • In story, Wade remembers that after he found the first key a company tried to hire him and threatened him if he didn't accept (which he didn't)
  • The company then tried to kill him.
  • This interrupts the story.
  • The literary element this helps us understand is plot because this company keeps coming up in the story.
  • This is important because it showed how he was becoming brave.

AHA! MOMENT

  • Wade has an AHA! Moment when we finds out the keys that he finds unlock secret gates to continue on in the game.
  • The literary element this helps the reader understand is plot because without knowing what the keys are for, Wade can't continue the game.
  • This changes things because Wade realizes that this can help him find the Easter egg.

TOUGH QUESTIONS

  • When Wade was offered a job working for finding the hidden Easter egg he had a hard choice choosing if he wanted to work for them
  • Wade ended up declining the job offer
  • Internal conflict was the literary element that this helps the reader understand.
  • It makes me wonder, what if he said yes to the job offer?

WORDS OF THE WISER

  • When Wade was still deciding whether or not to accept the job offer his mom gave him advice and told him not to accept the job.
  • Internal conflict was the literary element this helps the reader understand.
  • The life lesson was go with what your heart says even if it leads you into a sticky situation.
  • It would effect the character because he followed his heart and even though it was risky he still won in the end.
