ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

  • Dams block fish migration which separates fish from their spawning grounds
  • A dam holds back sediments that would travel downstream and replenish ecosystems,
  • if a river doesn't receive Sediments, it erodes the river beds for sediments it's not getting

EFFECT ON MINNESOTANS

  • People who live along the Mississippi River where sediments aren't getting lose some of their land among the river.
  • Native Americans living on reservoirs have been forced off the reservoirs due to the dams

RECENT NEWS

  • A renaissance dam along the Nile river in Egypt is threatening floods on the Egyptian side of the Mediterranean, due to not enough water flowing through the dam
  • The dam will also affect Egypt's drinking water , and Millions of Egyptians will have to leave coastal cities among the Mediterranean.
  • Efforts to fix this is building dams that generate power and doesn't hold back sediments and water
