PRESENTATION OUTLINE

FASHION IN ELIZABETHAN AGES

BY : ANISA KIDD-WILKERSON AND CHEROKEE SUBER

Those who lived in the Elizabethan ages were not allowed to wear anything they wanted. Their clothing was predicted by the Elizabethan Sumptuary Law. If these laws were broken the consequences include fines, loss of land, and sometimes even death.

Men's clothing was dictated by rank
Example: if you have more money than a duke, but didn't have the title of a duke you weren't allowed to wear the same material a duke would adorn

ELIzABETHAN WOMEN CLOTHING

  • Gowns
  • Hats
  • Corsets big collars
  • Fashionable shoes

ELIZABETHAN MEN CLOTHING

  • Breeches
  • Collars
  • Ruffs

Clothing for upper class was influenced by science and geometry. Women wanted to give the illusion of a smaller waist, whilst men wanted to look a little thinner.
