Marfan syndrome is a condition in which your body's connective tissue is abnormal. Connective tissue helps support all parts of your body. It also helps control how your body grows and develops.

Medical Doctor- Symptons

  • Long arms, legs, and fingers
  • Tall and thin body type
  • Curved spine
  • Chest goes out or in
  • Bad eye sight

Medical Doctor- Life Expactancy

  • In most cases people
  • live over the age of 70

Medical Doctor- Medical Care

  • Medicines that make the heart beat slower
  • Surgery can replace the aorta before it tears
  • A back brace for curved spines
  • For the eyes glasses or surgery is needed

Physical Therapist

  • There is no cure
  • But, therapies can delay syptoms
  • Therapy depends on the area affected
  • Most therapy prevents cardiovascular problems
  • Physical exersize should be limited

Occupational Therapist

  • Avoid contact sports
  • Regular visits with the cardiologist
  • Annual visits with the othorpedist
  • Regular visits with the ophthalmologist 
  • If anxiety occurs a therapist could be helpful

Heredity of Marfans Syndrome

  • Autosomal Dominant
  • Caused by a mutation in the FBN1 gene
  • Located in the 15th chromosome
  • One copy of the altered gene must be in each cell
  • 25% of cases are caused by mutation in FBN1 gene

Studies

  • Diagnosis based on family history
  • Can be determined in organs
  • 1/5000 people have Marfans disease
