BEFORE THE DESTRUCTION

• The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples.
• There was an active volcano on the island called Mount Vesuvius.

DURING THE DESTRUCTION

• The first phase during the eruption they evacuated artifacts considered
• Suitable for the private collection of the bourdon King Charles the third.
• They transported them to Napels.

RESTORATION

POMPEII TODAY

• The volcanic ashes completely covered the city,preserving the bulidings.
• People had forgotten that Pompeii even existed, and it lay buried under ground.
• In 1748 the excavtion of pompeii was begun and it archaeologists are still working.
• Many of the bulidings of pompeii uncovered by archaeologists were in good conditions.
• Pompeii is now a major tourist attraction and it attracts over 2 million visitors every year.
