PRESENTATION OUTLINE

You Make A Difference

Set up by Ms. Pace's Study Skills Class

What we are doing

  • We are planning to host this service activity from Dec. 1st through Feb. 12th
  • We will order 100 buttons (MS approx.) and give one to each student. After one day of wearing, the student(s) would pass the button on to another pupil that has made a difference in their life.
  • We will make about 10 posters and post them around the middle school hallway/classrooms.
  • An assembly will be held on Tuesday december 1st. We will include all this information and any questions.

Our Goals

  • To make everyone see the good in others.
  • Show Middle School students that they can change the lives of their peers by small acts of kindness.
  • By doing this, we hope to increase our students morale, so they can improve their level of acheivement

Inspiration

  • We were told a story that inspired us to do this for our middle school. This is how it goes:
  • A man was walking on a beach where he saw thousands of starfish washed up on the shore. He kept walking and saw an old man throwing starfish gently back into the ocean. The man said, "Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?"
  • "Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don't throw them further in, they will die."
  • "But old man, don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can't possibly save them all, you can't even save 1/10 of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won't make any difference at all."
  • The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea.
  • "It made a difference to that one."
