WHO IS SHE?

• Stroman is an American theater director, choreographer, film director, and performer

FAMILY LIFE

• Born in Wilmington, Delaware
• Daughter of Frances née Nolan and Charles Stroman
• She began studying dance and music because her father was a piano playing salesman

EDUCATION

• Taught by James Jamieson at the Academy of dance in Wilmington
• She majored in theater at the University of Delaware

CAREER

• After graduating in 1976 she moved to New York
• Her first professional appearance was in "Hit the Deck" at the Goodspeed Opera House in 1977
• In 1980 she was assistant director, assistant choreographer, and dance captain for the Broadway show Musical Chairs

CAREER CONTINUED

• Stroman's big break as a choreographer came in 1987 when director Scott Ellis hired her for his Off-Broadway revival of Flora the Red Menace at the Vineyard Theatre in Greenwich Village
• She won her first Tony Award for Best Choreography for being asst. director in "Crazy for you" in 1992
• In 1994, Stroman won her second Tony Award when she collaborated with Prince on a revival, where she unleashed some of her most innovative ideas

AWARDS

• Stroman has won a total of 24 awards
• Some important ones are the 5 Tony's, 5 drama desk awards, and 7 outer critic circle awards
• All of those awards were for outstanding choreography and director
