LEGISLATIVE BRANCH QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF SERVICE

  • No limits to terms served 6 year term
  • Must be 30 years old
  • U.s citizen for 9 years
  • Resident of the state

Legislative branch (powers)


The legislative branch has the power to tax(most important),regulate trade,borrow/lend money,declare war,coin money (print$$$).

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH(POWERS DENIED)

  • Ex post facto laws(makes an act a crime and punishes past offenders)
  • Bills of attainder(giving out punishment without a trial)
  • May not pass laws that harm the government
  • States cannot:coin money
  • Conduct foreighnpolicy
  • Tax trade without senate approval

Judicial branch(Supreme Court)


The Judicial branch is article 3 of the constitution.Its main duty is to: interpret the laws,make sure laws are applied fairly in all states, also,everyone receives equal justice.

We depend on this branch to protect our rights and settle disputes peaceably.

Executive branch(president)


The executive branch is article 2 of the constitution Its main duty is to carry out the laws.Its term of office is 4 years.

EXECUTIVE BRANCH QUALISICATIONS

  • 35 years old
  • A natural born citizen
  • Lived in the u.s for at least 14 years

EXECUTIVE BRANCH FACTS

  • Elected by the electoral collage not the popular vote
  • It is possible to win the popular vote and loose the electoral votes
  • Minnesota has 10 electoral votes
