1776
Purpose: Denounce British Crown and the British Government's Suffocation of American autonomy. Thereafter Establish a union of states founded ON republican values.
'Consent of the Governed Clause' limits government and promotes true representation.
POWERS GRANTED BY DECLARATION
Powers granted to Confederacy of states
-establish Commerce
-Levy War
-conduct peace
-contract alliances
Discontinuity between states because of such tight limitations of federal government.
CALL FOR GREATER FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
DUTIES OF GOVERNMENT
- Promote General Welfare
- Establish Domestic Tranquility
- Provide for the Common defense
- Secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity
HAMILTON GIVES TAKE ON CLAUSE
Congress takes up more power. Federal government trying to solve local problems far from home cause long process to bring a bill into law.
GENERAL WELFARE CLAUSE PRODUCES RED TAPE.
