By: Sameer Channa

Black history month is celebrated throughout North America during the month of February. Canada has been celebrating Black history month since 1995 when the government passed the bill to make Black history month a celebration of accomplishments.

The person I am researching about is Nelson Mandela. He was a powerful, intelligent leader and a spokesperson. He always fought for justice and equality, not only for South Africans but people everywhere.

In this presentation I will discuss 3 questions which you will know in a moment.

How was Nelson Mandela’s early life?

Nelson Mandela whose real name was Rolihlahla, was born on 18 July, 1918 at Mvezo. His father died when he was only nine years old. His name Nelson was given by his teacher in school when he was young.
Nelson spent his early childhood in Transkei. He was very smart and bright in his studies and also took lots of interest in running and boxing.

While studying in Fort Hare University, he became involved in student politics and therefore he was ordered to leave the University after he went against the University policies.
