TORTOISES NEED A COMPANION

My hypothesis:
If my tortoises are separated, they will eat less, drink less, and be less active.

When I had my tortoises together, they were always together. Later on, they seemed to feel more comfortable and were not with each other that often.

When I separated them, I saw Katniss trying to get out, and Gale staring at her often.

As I predicted, over the course of a week, they weren't as active, they didn't drink as much or eat as much.

OBSERVATIONS TOGETHER

  • In the beginning, Katniss followed Gale around a lot
  • They sleep on top of each other or dig under the shavings
  • They are perfectly healthy and active

SEPARATE OBSERVATIONS

  • Katniss was sleeping for much longer than usual
  • Katniss and Gale are not eating or drinking as much as they probably should
  • When they were outside, they would walk to each other and fall asleep almost instantly

When I put them back together, they spent lots of time together. Meaning they slept next to each other, and walked around the yard next to each other. They also ate and drank more.

In conclusion, my hypothesis was correct. If my tortoises are separated, they will eat less, drink less, and be less active.
