ANUBIS

  • Once Anubis was the god of the underworld
  • He was in charge of overseeing the mummification process
  • Anubis was also considered the guide and protector of the dead
  • Anubis and Hermes were later combined into a hybrid god, Hermanubis

ANUBIS' CREATION

  • There are many different myths on how Anubis came to be
  • His mother is either Isis, Nephthys, or Skhment
  • His father is either Ra, Set, or Osiris
  • Some even older texts suggest his parents were Hesat and Mnevis

ANUBIS' APPERANCE

  • In all ancient texts known, Anubis has the head of a jackal
  • His body is the most debated physical quality
  • Some texts say he had a jackal's body as well
  • While other texts say he was a Theriocephaly

MUMMIFICATION

  • The care of the dead is Anubis' most important role
  • According to myth, Anubis created mummification
  • Anubis appears many times in the Book of the Dead
  • He is charge of the mummification process
  • Anubis also is in charge of The Weighing of the Heart
