  • are pure substances
  • made up of the same atoms
  • can be broken down into one atom

  • two or more elements combined chemically
  • can be broken down into individual elements

  • Water
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Salt
  • Methane
  • Alcohol

MIXTURES

  • a combination of substances but doesn't make a new substance
  • can be easily separated
  • has two types of mixtures: heterogeneous and homogeneous

HETEROGENEOUS
+ not uniform throughout
+ can be seen

HOMOGENEOUS
+ uniform throughout
+ substance mixed well enough so we can't see each component
