THE STORY OF BILLY
IN THE NEO-BABYLONIAN EMPIRE
A long time ago, around 605 A.D. there was a boy name Billy Bob Joe who was 26 years old and lived in the time of the Neo-Babylonian. It was a time where there was war, it would be hard to live in Billy Bob Joe’s time. He was a normal kid who was the son of Nebuchadnezzar II, who was the ruler and a ruthless military leader. Billy was sad one day because his dad never got to spend time with him, so he decided to go to a ziggurat to have time by himself and think about what to do.
Billy went to his dad for ideas, when his dad said,"You could make a wall surrounding our city so we could defend against our enemies." So he went and started to plan it out, while his dad was busy rebuilding major cities in Neo-Babylonian. King Nebuchadnezzar saw his empire one day and saw people working and doing their jobs. He was very pleased with the progress. One day, Billy was missing.
His soldiers told the king that the Egyptians kidnapped Billy. So King Nebuchadnezzar decided to wage war on Egypt, but when he couldn't find his son, he decided to keep finding his son and so he invaded Judah and Jerusalem. While he was invading, he found that his city was captured. Nebuchadnezzar had control over Babylonia, Assyria, Phoenicia, Israel, Philistine, Northern Arabia, and parts of Asia Minor.
Then he was able to find his son who actually wasn't kidnapped; he just traveled to find ideas on his wall. But his dad died, and Amel-Marduk, Nebuchadnezzar’s eldest son, took Nebuchadnezzar's place on the throne. Billy was really sad for his dad’s death. After two years, Amel-Marduk was then murdered by Neriglissar, Amel-Marduk’s brother-in-law who then became king. Neriglissar killed his brother-in-law because Amel-Marduk tried to change his father’s policies.
The people of Neo-Babylonia were sad because they had lost two kings already. Neriglissar was a good king who restored temples and public works. He conducted military campaigns against Cilicia because they threatened Neo-Babylonian. The people were scared, including Billy. He didn’t want what his father created to come to an end.
Neriglissar only reigned for four years and his son Labashi-Marduk started to reign when he was a boy. Billy right now, is 48 years old. He had already seen the reign of four kings. Billy wondered if he was ever going to be king like his father. Billy lives as beggar and is almost dying of starvation. He made sure that no one knew him because if they did they would surely kill him.
So Billy went to Gobryas, Governor of Assyria because he was a man his father knew. So when Billy asked Gobryas, Gobryas said yes. So Billy’s plan was brought to action. But Gobryas betrayed Billy and told the Persians. When the Persians heard of the plan they decided to attack. The Persians took over.
