AMENDMENT III

BY: SHAYLEE GUNWALL

Amendment III

No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

It was ratified on December 15, 1791.

What it would do that an American does not need to house soldiers even if they are asked, and the government can't just let soldiers stay in people's houses without telling them about it; it means that the house owners makes the decision.

The 3rd amendment was added because during the French and Indian War as well as the Revolutionary War to some degree, the British Army used the homes of American property without their permission, using their money, stealing their livestock, and eating their crops. As such, the Third Amendment was added for preventing the new American Government from being able to do this.

Now, the soldiers need to get permission from the owner of the house to stay there or even use their property and it's all up to the owner of the house not the government or anyone else. And it did affect the soldiers because they couldn't just stay at a house as they want.
