WHAT IS WATER SCARCITY?

  • lack of sufficient available water resources to meet water needs within a region.

WATER SCARCITY IN MEXICO

  • Mexico City’s water crisis has myriad faces. Many poor communities not only lack regular service, they lack access to any supply of water suitable for human consumption. Exacerbating the problem are the environmental effects of water policies that have put the whole metropolitan area at risk.

WHAT IS FOOD WASTE?

  • Hunger is still one of the most urgent development challenges, yet the world is producing more than enough food. The FAO-led Save Food initiative is partnering with international organizations, the private sector and civil society to enable food systems to reduce food loss and waste in both the developing and the industrialized world.

FOOD WASTE IN USA

  • Americans waste an unfathomable amount of food. In fact, according to a Guardian report released this week, roughly 50 percent of all produce in the United States is thrown away—some 60 million tons (or $160 billion) worth of produce annually, an amount constituting “one third of all foodstuffs.” Wasted food is also the single biggest occupant in American landfills, the Environmental Protection Agency has found.
