HOW TO KEEP FRESH CUT FLOWERS FRESH?

If flowers were put in the refrigerator, then the flowers will last longer because the frigid temperature will freeze the aging process of the flower.

MATERIALS

  • Get all materials
  • Trim all stems to 27 cm
  • Separate 12 flowers into 2 groups
  • Water the flowers to with 800 ml of sink water.
  • In the night at 7:00 put the flowers in the fridge for 12 hours.
  • In the morning at 7:00 take them out and set them on a table.
  • Put the vases in a same tempature room.
  • Take notes at 6:00 everyday for the next 7 days.

INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT VARIABLE

  • Independent Variable the amount of temperature.
  • Dependent Variable was the freshness of the flower.

EXPERIMENTAL GROUP AND CONTROL GROUP

  • Experimental Group was the flowers in the refrigerator.
  • The control group was the flowers that had just water and were at room temperature.

CONTROLLED VARIABLES

  • Same amount of water
  • Same amount of sunlight
  • Same location
  • Same length of stem
  • Same type of flower (rose)

Analysis

The data that surprised me was that my experimental group survived for so long.

Conclusion

The hypothesis was that if we refrigerate fresh cut flowers for for 8 hours each day, they would last longer than a flower in tap water, because the frigid temperature would freeze the aging process. The results of this investigation did support the hypothesis because the flowers lasted the whole experiment.
