SYMPTOMS

  • Small dimple or birthmark.
  • Weak leg muscles.
  • Collection of fat.
  • A deformity of the bones.
  • Seizures.

Diagnosis:
They can take blood tests, an ultrasound, or a sample fluid test from the womb all during the pregnancy.
Treatments:
There are different surgeries, or back braces, but it can not be fully cured.

Who's affected?
Mostly it's new born babies, and they discover they have the disease while still in the womb. Some don't discover right away and can live there life with Spina Bifida not knowing they have it.

EXTRA FACTS

  • It affects 1 out of 1000 newborn babies.
  • 90-95% of the babies families have no background history of this disease.
