During the year of 1963 there were two major missions carried on through NASA.

The first mission was on June 16, 1963 in the spacecraft known as the Vostok 6.This craft carried Soviet Cosmonaut Valetina Tereshkova

During this mission Tereshkova conducted a series of biomedical and scientific experiments After completing 48 orbits in 70.7 hr, the spacecraft landed on June 19, 1963, northeast of Karaganda.

A huge milestone was accomplished during this mission. Considering Tereshkova was the first woman in space, women playing a huge role outside of the home was still rare around this time.

VOSTOK 6 MISSION PATCH
The next mission to occur in 1963 and it was an interpretation of the 3c 273.which is a quasar that is located in a host elliptical Galaxy

This quasar was discovered or interperated by Dutch astronomer Maartin Schmidt.

To this day this quasar is optimistically the brightest quasar in the sky. To put its brightness to scale its roughly 4 million times more luminous than our sun

The one major thing that occurred in NASA in 1964 was the first close range photographs of the moon

Despite the national broadcast of the first moon- landing we never really had the opportunity to see the moon upclose

That was until July 31, 1964 the U.S ranger 7 was launched into space and captured and relayed the first close range photos of the moon
