BONE DISORDERS

OSTEOPOROSIS

  • Causes bone to become weak and brittle.
  • Occurs when the creation of bone doesn't keep up with
  • the removal of old bone.
  • Symptoms: back pain, stooped posture, easily fractured
  • bones, and loss of height over time.

RICKETS

  • is the softening and weakening of bones in children.
  • Caused by a prolonged vitamin D deficiency.
  • Symptoms: delayed growth; pain in the spine, pelvis, and legs;
  • muscle weakness, and skeletal deformities.

PAGET'S DISEASE

  • Disrupts your recycling process of replacing old bone
  • with new bone.
  • The affected bones may become fragile and weak.
  • Most commonly occurs in the pelvis, skull, spine, and legs.
  • Symptoms: usually no symptoms, but sometimes, bone pain.

OSTEOARTHRITIS

  • Most common form of arthritis.
  • Occurs when the protective cartilage on the
  • ends of your bones wears down over time.
  • Commonly affects joints in hands, neck, lower back, knees, and hips.
  • Symptoms: pain, tenderness, stiffness, & loss of flexibility.

ACROMEGALY

  • is a hormonal disorder has your pituitary gland produces
  • too much growth hormone causing your bones to increase in size.
  • Can cause children to have gigantism.
  • Few of the symptoms: enlarged hands and feet, enlarged facial
  • features, fatigue, deepened voice, impaired vision, & headaches.
