Bartholomew traveled east to preach the Gospel
While in Armenia (a country east of current day Turkey) he was arrested, tortured, and finally put to death.
His symbol is a knife because that is the tool used during his torture.
Nathanael was one of those who Jesus appear to on the shore of Tiberias after he was Resurrected
