What are the stolen generation?

In 1910 to 1970 many indigenous children were removed from form their families as of some of the government policies. The generations of children taken from their families because of the policies and then became known as the stolen generation. The stolen generation policies resulted in anger and loss to families that continues to affect indigenous families and especially all of the children that were taken during this time. The stolen generations were the children that were taken from the families between 1910 to 1970.

What were their struggles for freedom?

The struggles for freedom that the aboriginal children had during the stolen generation were that they were not treated fairly. When they were at the Board for the Protection of Aborigines (the stolen generation foster homes) they were treated very unfairly and they had to do many things like they got their names changed, they lost their cultures and tradition because of these times.

How did their families feel when they were taken in the stolen generation?

The families were very scared for their children but especially the children had been missing their families. They had there while families looking for them. there families had been knocking on doors and ringing the welfare to try and find their children.

Interesting facts

- 50,000 children were taken from their homes and families during the stolen generations.

- The first institution was set up at parramatta NSW.

- In 1814 it was setup to civilise aboriginal children.
