Costa Rica is located between Nicaragua and Panama. It also borders the Pacific Ocean.
Costa Rica has many volcanoes, beaches, mountains, and jungles. One very well known volcano is Irazu, located next to San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica.
In Costa Rica, there are 700 miles of beaches and rivers.
The highest point in Costa Rica is Cerro Chirripó, which is at 3,810m
The food in Costa Rica is absolutely amazing. Most recipes have been passed down for generations.
Tamales, usually served at Christmas and Easter, are a very special dish to Costa Ricans. Each family has their own recipe that is unique and one-of-a-kind, and almost everyone has a different recipe.
There are many fruits in Costa Rica, like bananas, mangos, pineapples, papayas, watermelons, and many citrus fruits.
Gallo Pinto is the most common breakfast in Costa Rica. It has black beans and rice mixed together, with fried plantains, scrambled eggs, and sour cream.
Costa Ricans of all ages drink coffee. Most adults usually have 2-3 coffee breaks per day.
Juan Santamaria was a hero to Costa Ricans in one of their wars. He wasn't a strong or buff soldier though. Instead, he joined the army as a drummer boy.
Juan Santamaria saved Central Americans by setting fire to a hostel, which helped the, greatly in their victory. Although he died during his brave act, many people on Costa Rica celebrate him with parades, music, and more.
Costa Rica was founded in 1502 by Christopher Columbus.
In 1524, Costa Rica was taken over and incorporated as a province of New Spain.
For the next 300 years, Costa Rica was a colony of Spain.
The remaining 8% of the population with no specific religion either believe in another faith, like Mormonism, Judaism, or Islam, if not, then they don't have or practice a religion.
CELEBRATIONS AND HOLIDAYS
All Soul's Day is Costa Rica's version of Mexico's "Day of the Dead." They visit the graves of lost family and friends.
Costa Rica's New Years Day is just like ours. They celebrate with beer, food, parties, fireworks, parades, and more.
