MT. KILIMANJARO

  • Highest peak in the continent of Africa
  • It is located in the country of Tanzania
  • It is actually a volcanic mountain
  • Approximately 20,000 ft above sea level

SAHARA

  • The largest hot desert in the world
  • It means "desert" in Arabic
  • Stretches for 3,000 miles across Africa
  • Can reach temperatures up to 136.4 degrees

MADAGASCAR

  • Island located off the east coast of Africa
  • First settled around 300 BC
  • It is the place to find wild lemurs over 100 species
  • Has hot rainy seasons and dry humid seasons

GREAT RIFT VALLEY

  • Stretch for over 4,000 miles on the east part of Africa
  • Continental plates are pulling apart from each other
  • East part of Africa is pulling away from the rest of the continent
  • Also called a depression in the land

LAKE VICTORIA

  • Largest body of fresh water on continent of Africa
  • Sits in a shallow basin between to rift valleys
  • The worlds second largest freshwater lake
  • Despite it large size it's only 270 ft deep

NILE RIVER

  • Longest river in the world
  • Flows for more than 4,000 miles into Egypt
  • 3,320 people per square mile live on the Nile
  • 95% of Egyptians depend on it for their water
