TENDONITIS

BY: LIV AND KATIE

WHAT IS IT?

  • It is a condition in which the tissue connecting the bone becomes inflamed.
  • It is most common in the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist or heel.
  • It is also known as tennis elbow or swimmer shoulder.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Stiffness, swelling, tenderness, weakness, and pain from particular area. Tendonitis can also cause loss of motion.
  • It is caused by repetitive minor impact on the affected area, or from a prior injury including incorrect posture, incorrect movements, and overuse.

TREATMENT:

  • Resting area
  • Ice specific area
  • Anti-inflammatory medicine
  • Physical therapy
  • Surgery (if severe)
  • In order for treatment to work, muscle where the tendon is must be built up.

PROGNOSIS:

  • With proper treatment, the affected tendon usually completely recovers.
  • However, not treating it can make it worse.
