The importance of exercise is something we have learned since our first days of Gym. We have learned how to exercise and many different ways to do it. Physical education is often the first taste of physical activity many kids get.
The unit that I would like to be added to future classes does not have to do with physical activity itself. But it's a very important part of health that goes along with it. A nutrition unit that goes hand in hand with our class can be a great idea.
The goal of this unit should be to educate students of the importance of nutrition and how it goes hand and hand with exercise. For example, an hour of paced cardio can burn 100-215 calories. Most granola bars pack 150 to 200 calories.
For this unit, coach should have us find our daily recommend caloric intake. After that, we should be assign to write down everything we eat for a week so we become aware of what exactly we are eating and how many calories we are consuming.
Once we have completed our first assignment. Many will be surprise of how much they overeat or under eat. This will open up their eyes, and help them set goals to achieve their respective goal.
Being aware of how important nutrition is in correlation to exercise will help students become better athletes. Knowing what to consume before practice or a game can have a significant impact on performance.
The goal of this unit should be to make students aware of what they consume. Many of us go everyday unaware of what exactly we are putting in our body. Being sure of how many calories and what macro nutrients you are consuming can significantly help you become a healthier individual.
