POTATO FAMINE

The Irish Potato Famine lasted seven years,1845-1852. It starved about 1 million Irish.

Wooh! Not so lucky

The potato famine was caused by a blight that attacked the potato’s tubers. It is spread by water mold.

Starving Irish who tried to eat the rotten potatoes were infected with Cholera and Typhus. This caused whole villages to be contaminated.

They planted large amounts of potatoes because they were easy and fast to grow.

Many of the Irish fled Ireland to America.
That is one way Irishness got to America. Yep.
That’s good for us!
