Introduction
Story about three secondary-school students.
Page 3-6

Look around your classroom. As a single group try to make a list of each student’s unique talent at this stage in your lives.
Look at each person. Are there any signs of gifts that might emerge later on? Will any of you make a difference to the world?
Is there anyone here who would admit that they have no interest in making a difference for other and who believe the world exists to get what you can out of it? How do you justify this?

What words would you associate with a famous person?

  • What about these words?
  • Peasant, unassuming, modest, kind, generous, caring, very few possessions...
Here is a man who was born of Jewish parents, the child of a peasant woman. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never owned a home. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put his foot inside a big city. He never travelled more than two hundred miles from where he was born.
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied him. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. His executioners gambled for the only piece of property he had on earth – his coat. When he was dead, he was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
20 long centuries have come and gone, and he is the centrepiece of the human race and the leader of the column of progress. I am well within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched and all the navies that were ever built have not affected the life of humanity upon earth as has that one solitary live. Is there anyone here who gets really angry when you see something that you perceive to be injustice at different levels of society or throughout the world?
Teenagers with an innate sense of injustice are everywhere.

Is there anyone who believes that it is their purpose to give something back? Do some of you feel that there is something that you have to give in service to others?
What would signify accomplishments in your life now...in ten years...in twenty years?

The meaning of life differs from person to person and from moment to moment. It is up to each individual to define the meaning of their own life, in their own particular moment.

The average lifespan is 25,550 days. You will have used up around 6,000 by the time your read this. The meaning of your life right now is for you to decide. It is your story. You have, on average, 19,550 days to go. During their lifetime, many people search for meaning in their lives.
What the meaning of your life will ultimately be is your story to tell.

Have we gone a bit like this now?

Think about this...

Footprints in the Sand

Footprints in the Sand

One night I had a dream.

I dreamed I was walking along the beach
with the Lord..

Across the sky flashed scenes from my life..
For each scene, I noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand,
one belonging to me, and the other to the Lord..

When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.

This really bothered me
and I questioned the Lord about it:
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why
when I need you most you would leave me."

The Lord replied:
"My precious child, I love you and would
never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints, it was then
that I carried you."
