My Academic Journey Began At Lawson State Community College Year: 2013 Major: Pre-Nursing Desired to become a Nurse and to help others because I was working at UAB Hospital as a Patient Care Technician
After completing my pre-requisites, I applied to UAB Nursing school in 2015; unfortunately, I was not chosen. Therefore, after continuous pondering I decided to change my major to Psychology. This is because I knew I still wanted a career helping others, but did not want the fear of being at a stand still, if not chosen again by the nursing program.
After taking continuous Psychology courses at UAB, I became captivated with the subject. Yet, I knew I wanted to go further and branch out beyond the standard curriculum to design my own. This led me to design a General Studies-Interdisciplinary Curriculum.
I chose to enhance my knowledge with aspects of various fields: i.e. Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology, and Anthropology. Yet, by only taking classes relative to the medical field, mental disabilities, development, counseling, and interventions preparing me for my future career prospects
My current academic journey has led me to begin planning for a career in the social services field upon graduation. Primarily working with abused or neglected children either privately or for a government agency
I feel like my vast knowledge and experience acquired throughout my academic journey here at UAB has prepared me for success in all of my future endeavors. I will be graduating December 2017 and I am excited for my new upcoming journey, as a college graduate and future career starter
