Christmas in Scotland

  • Christmas was banned in Scotland 400 years, so people celebrated it in secret.
  • In Scotland for Christmas they eat oatmeal cakes, puddings; also, they eat (deer meat) stew, and roasted turkey.

  • Odin, ruler of the Norse gods leaves gifts, money, food, or he helps those in need.
  • Odin will come to people's houses and he will listen on what they have to say.

Odin

  • Whenever Odin comes to Scotland, he rides on a eight legged horse.
  • Odin wears a hooded cloak, so that no one cannot see him

Ne'er's Day (New Years)

  • Some Scots like to celebrate Christmas during New Years whereas others celebrate it after Halloween.
  • Scots will do anything to have a good year because they believe in bad luck and good luck.

To Have a Good Year

  • If you don't have the fire burning the next day on Christmas, you will have bad luck in the beginning of the year.
  • Until you find the coin you left at the doorstep the next day after Christmas, you are good for the rest of the year.

Other Information

  • In the U.S people put stars on top of Christmas trees, while in Scotland, they have a Christmas fairy.
  • Although there is a lot of traffic during Christmas, snow doesn't effect anything.
