STORMING THE BASTILLE

  • On July 14,1789 French People were worried Paris would be attacked
  • Found nothing so started killing guards and prison
  • This shows the people how powerful they are and is the start to the Revolution

DECLARATION OF RIGHTS OF MAN

  • August 26, 1789 the Third Estate leaves Estates General
  • Writes new Constitution that gives people more power
  • People gain power and show first 2 estates there power

WOMENS MARCH ON VERSAILLES

  • October 5,1989 women march over lack of and overpriced bread, wanted reforms
  • Another protest towards the government, people are starting to get very angry with the government

SEPTEMBER MASSACRES

  • September 2 - 7, 1792 people worried other countries will invade France
  • Thought prisoners would be freed or used against them, started killing prisoners
  • Showed the people couldn't trust the new government

EXECUTION OF KING LOUIS XVI

  • Delegates reduced his role to citizen
  • Tried for treason, found guilty, given death penalty
  • On January 21, 1793 King Louis XVI is executed

EXECUTION OF MARIE ANTOINETTE

  • Austria's enemy was France during the revolution
  • Everyone thought Austria would attack France
  • Marie Antoinette was charged with treason
  • On October 16, 1793 Marie Antoinette was executed

REIGN OF TERROR

  • In July 1793 Maximilian Robespierre became dictator of France
  • Peasants were raged and many powerful people were sentenced to death
  • Executions went up a lot and the people of France were not happy but would be executed for showing lack of faith to the new government
