LEIF ERIKSSON

  • The son of Erik the Red.
  • Eriksson and his crew landed on the Labrador Peninsula in present day Canada.
  • Got carried away by the wind and landed in North American coast.

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS

  • On October 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
  • On August 3, 1492 Columbus's three ships set sail.

FERDINAND MAGELLAN

  • Portuguese navigator whose expedition circumnavigated the globe
  • Sailed around the southern tip of South America and into the pacific.

COLUMBIAN EXCHANGE

  • It started with the explorations of Columbus.
  • Over time a trading pattern developed, involving the exchange of raw materials ect.

CONQUISTADORS

  • Spanish soldiers who led military expeditions in the Americas
  • Mexico in 1519

NORTHWEST PASSAGE

  • Early searches explored the coast from Canada to North Carolina
  • Wasn't found, but voyages led to more interest in North America

MIDDLE PASSAGE

  • Slaves died of sickness, suffocation, or malnutrition during the voyage.
  • Disease spread quickly on the crowded ships
