We chose this topic because we thought it was interesting. And we wanted to research more about the burning crater.

Gate to hell is a giant crater, that has fires on it. Located in Turkmenistan, it has been on fire since the 1971.

Door to hell is on the middle of the Karakum Desert. It is 60 meter wide and 20 meter deep. The fun fact is that it is not natural, and it was a result of mining this place. The natural gas made the crater start to burn.

It is related to what we learned this year because Door to hell is a big crater which is related to earth science. And it is related to what is below the surface of earth.

I learned about this in 4th grade. The textbook's units were mostly about earth science and we learned a lot about it. (I learned convection in Korean 5th grade) From here Peter was absent so I wrote this in first person view.

Some of the most interesting facts were...

  • The crater was not nature and the fire continued to burn over decades.
  • The crater's size is like a football field.
  • Door to hell is like the largest gas field on earth.
  • The name was given by locals live around the crater.
  • Scientists guessed that the fire will burn just a few weeks but it was not.

I wonder...

  • Why the crater keeps burning even if there is a rain?
  • Before the crater was burning the land was normal?
  • What happen if we get close to that gas that made the crater to burn?
