Description

  • They can grow up to 8 feet.
  • The red plume is red because it is filled with blood.
  • The diameter of the tube is about 1.6 inches.

Habitat

  • The vents shoot out toxic gas.
  • They live about 1 mile deep in the ocean.

  • They do not have a mouth or gut.
  • The energy they produce is actually sugar.

Life cycle

  • To make babies they release eggs into the water.
  • Once they are born they cling on to a rock to live on.
  • A tube worm can grow 5 feet in just 2 years.

Fun Facts

  • Scientists found tube worms so close to a hot underwater vent they called it the tube worm barbecue.
  • Scientists know more about the surface of the moon than the ocean.
