WHO WAS HE ?

  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand was born in the city of Graz on December 18, 1863. After his cousin and father died, he became the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. His uncle, Franz Joseph, was the current emperor of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. He was married to Sophie, the Duchess of Hohen

THE ARRIVAL

  • Franz Ferdinand and his wife were doing an inspection in the army of Sarajevo.
  • They arrived by train at 9:28 am, June 28, 1914
  • It was also their wedding anniversary

THE PLAN

  • While driving the main road of Sarajevo, seven Bosnian were planning on assassinating the heir.
  • They threw a bomb at Franz's car but it missed and one of them, was arrested.

THE DEATH

  • As Franz heard that a person in the car behind got hurt because of the bomb, Ferdinand wanted to visit him in the hospital
  • However, the driver changed the route and turned into a street where Gavrilo Princip was standing with a gun.
  • He shot Franz Ferdinand's wife first and the him, both died.

THE REASON OF THE ATTACK

  • He was not liked by his people:
  • He was rude and didn't talk to his people.
  • Could not have the throne passed on to his sons
  • Strongly catholic and was against any other religion
