SOME IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT THEM ARE

  • Their most famous King was Hammurabi
  • Hammurabi made the first set of written laws
  • Which was a lot fairer to the people because then all the people new what all of the laws were instead of just hoping to hear about them.

The next group the conquer Mesopotamia were the Hittities

SOME MAJOR FACTS ABOUT THEM ARE

  • It was easy for them to conquer the Babylonians because they had iron swords (the Babylonians had bronze) and they also had chariots.
  • The chariots helped a lot because it allowed them to move across the battle field quickly.
  • Although they were great fighters they did not have a good way to control their empire and were quickly invaded by other groups.

The Next Group that conquered were the Kasitites

LIFE LESSONS

  • When the Chaldeans took over it was a huge relief to the people of Mesopotamia because they weren't nearly as cruel as the Assyrians.
  • They became experts in astrology and astronomy.
  • They also created a calendar and could do geometry.
  • They were also called the neobabalonians.
  • They became experts in astronomy, and believed in astrology.

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROLOGY:

  • It may be hard to tell the difference between astronomy and astrology.
  • Astronomy is a branch of Science that deals with celestial bodies, (stars, planets, etc.) space, and the physical universe as a whole.
  • Astrology is the belief in the arrangement of the stars and planets at birth that affect your fate.

This next group were the Phoenicians

I THINK THIS IS MY FAVORITE GROUP!

  • The Phoenicians DID NOT take over the Chaldeans, they never took over any one.
  • They conquered by trade and wealth.
  • They had three specific things they were famous for.
  • a. They were the first to make an alphabet. (Which was a MAJOR contribution.)
  • b. Their trade was VERY important.
  • c. Their colonies.

THE PHOENICIAN ALPHABET:

  • An alphabet is a set of letter that can be combined to form words.
  • An alphabet made writing MUCH easier then pictographs (An earlier form of writing)
  • Even the English alphabet is just an modified version of the Phoenician alphabet.
  • This alphabet was spread by that fact that they traded so much.

THE PHOENICIAN TRADE:

  • The Phoenicians trade route was all over the place!
  • Some of the places they went to were Greece, Egypt, Spain, Italy, Sicily, and even passed through the straight of Gibraltar and into the Atlantic Ocean.
  • One of the most focus things the Phoenicians are known for is their purple dye.
  • Although today purple dye is the symbol of royalty.

PHOENICIAN COLONIES:

  • The Phoenicians found many new colonies along their trade route.
  • Carthage became the most powerful on the Mediterranean Sea.
  • (On the next slide is more important things about the Phoenicians.
  • I just wanted to add another bullet so I did!😊
